Led by Anishinaabe musician Tashiina Buswa, Ribbon Skirt are a band from Montreal. With a captivating live show, they have played festivals across Canada and the US including SXSW, New Colossus, Sled Island, Sappyfest, Flourish and Pop Montreal, and shared stages with Dehd, Ombiigizi, Packs, Chad VanGaalen and Enumclaw. Their debut album Bite Down brings a darker and more introspective sound, dealing with themes of memory, grief and Buswa’s connection to her Indigenous identity and cultural practices. Produced by Scott ‘Monty’ Munro (Preoccupations) and Marlaena Moore, and with endless experimentation in the studio the band emerged with a confident debut album mixing drum machines and synths to compliment the energy of the live band. Continuing in this spirit of pushing their sound into a new direction, the band chose to work with legendary experimental drummer and composer Greg Saunier (Deerhoof) on mixing, and mastering was done by Mikey Young (Total Control).
